The Terminal

Anyone see the movie Terminal with Tom Hanks?  (Not his best one).  That is what yesterday felt like for us!  We were at an aiport for about 18 hours! In the time it took us to fly to New Hampshire, we could've driven.  We started at the aiport at 5am to try and make the 6am flight to Manchester, NH.  My uncle gave us buddy passes for Delta so you have to go standby for the flights.  The day before he checked the flights and they all looked like it would be a breeze to get on them.  That is...until it stormed on Wednesday and so then all the flights on Thursday became booked from people that were bumped from the day before.  Well, we missed tht 6am flight and then tried for the 730am flight.  Didn't get on that one either.  The next was 848am, missed it too.  Then there was a 1045am flight.  You guessed it...missed it!  I must say LB was a trooper.  She patiently waited for her first airplane ride that I wasn't sure was going to happen.  She would watch out the window and say, "there goes our airplane...again."  After we missed the 4th flight, we decided to break for lunch at the airport.  The next plane to try and catch was the 128pm flight.  We had already decided that if we didn't make it, we would drive to ATL and fly out there because we would definitely make it then.  We sat and anxiously waited for them to call our names.  While we were sitting there a thunder storm rolled in and a big bolt of lightning hit.  There was smoke and a loud noise.  In the meantime, a plane was diverted from ATL to land in Bham because ATL was closed due to the weather.  It just so happened that a few people got off that plane because they were coming to Bham anyway.  Jackpot!!  We got a seat.   We quickly got on for our short ride to ATL.  Come to find out the plane we were really waiting on got struck by the previous lightning bolt and everyone had to get off and wait.  We finally made it to ATL at around 5pm (ET) and were trying to catch a 535pm flight to Boston because we totally missed all the flights to Manchester.  Well, delayed again!  The 535pm flight didn't leave until around 830pm and it didn't look good for us since we were 39 of 39 on the standby list.  So we sat and what do you know, they called our name!  So we made it to Boston around 11pm (ET).  Poor Jaime, Jean, and Yetta!  They had to drive 2 hours to come and get us and then 2 hours back!  But we are here and LB is having a great time.  She was so great during all the hoopla.  Honestly, it was kind of fun yesterday and adventuresome for us.  I am definitely not complaining, our tickets were cheap and we knew that could happen to us. Hopefully the flight back home Sunday will not look like this in any form or fashion though!  I'm praying for good weather.

Did I mention that my bag got searched in airport security?  Did you know that you can only have 3oz of liquid in your carry on bags?  Well, I didn't!  I had to throw away brand new shower gel, lotion, expensive face wash, and hairspray!  Next time I will know!  But really, that was the least of my worries yesterday!
